Ciaron Maher’s journey to becoming one of Australia’s leading racehorse trainers is a testament to his dedication, passion, and willingness to learn from the very best in the world. A former apprentice to legendary trainer CS Hayes, Ciaron made a name for himself as a successful jumps jockey, even captaining the Australian team in the prestigious International Jockey Challenge against Ireland. However, recognising that his size would limit his riding ambitions, Ciaron shifted his focus to training — a decision that would ultimately shape his remarkable career.

Ciaron's early training years saw him gain invaluable experience by working alongside some of the best trainers in the world. He spent time learning from Hall of Fame trainer Bart Cummings, as well as international giants such as Aidan O'Brien, Willie Mullins, and Wesley Ward. Ciaron also learned the intricacies of flat racing while spending time with respected trainers like Roger Charlton, Richard Hannon, Andre Fabre, and Joseph O'Brien. These global connections and experiences have helped him build a reputation for innovative and world-class training methods.

Starting out with just six boxes on his father’s farm, Ciaron now operates one of the most sophisticated and expansive training operations in Australia. His facilities span several prime locations, including Ballarat, which he believes is one of the best training facilities in the world. Along with the state-of-the-art setups at Cranbourne, Warwick Farm, and Bong Bong Farm, Ciaron also boasts a custom-made pre-training and spelling operation at Pakenham, along with hand-picked locations at Balnarring and BOBS farm.

Ciaron is deeply committed to providing the best for his horses, and he believes in continuous learning and improvement, which is why he remains actively engaged with the world’s best trainers. His philosophy and drive have earned him a reputation as one of the finest in the business, and he strives to ensure his horses receive the utmost care and attention.
